parting dislodge quiet doomsday miss platform volute cat hypocrite schrodinger
" Well , I think it's funny " First Line Friday
miss volute and miss doomsday
both school teachers
could easily be mistaken for twin sisters
redolent of
something you might see
in a framed faded staff photo
hanging on the refectory wall
of a gothic boarding school
both quiet and a tad hypocritical
they feigned sorrow at parting from their pupils
waving bye bye with tear stained lace hankies
as they journeyed home for the holidays
soon as they were out of sight
they cracked open the sherry cheering
studying the form guide with relish for a flutter on the horses
praying for a lotto win so they would never have to return
to st cuthberts
spending the rest of their days at a luxury resort
dreaming of the cabana boys.
miss volute had a cat called schrodinger
miss doomsday called hers quantum and physics
both loved steam engine trains
both loved to dislodge other passengers from the platform
elbowing them out of the way with their umbrellas
so they could jump on first to get the best seats
Love this whimsical piece! I'm glad that the word cat was included along with Schrodinger, otherwise Schrodinger would have no cat in the hat, or the hat box either!
