Easter in Sri Lanka

it was yesterday
yesterdays news hey
bombings
churchgoers slain
on easter sunday
killings
forgotten today
and who is to pay

satan is at play
delights in the game
maiming
destruction display
and then runs away
chilling
yesterdays news hey
it was yesterday

Carpe Diem # 1650 - Jane Reichhold Haiku

threads of smoke
breakfast fires of neighbours
tied together

we call the fire brigade
neighbours shout go fuck yourselves

flood waters crest
someone by the river puts water
in a coffee pot

we send it to our neighbour
a taste of karma meets cholera

breakfast coffee
the excitement of an ocean
in my cup

a  special birthday today
lots of floating ice cream

pale spring sunshine
spread over breakfast toast
quince jelly

sticky fingers do not lick
mum's eyes are upon me

beating egg yolks
two yellow butterflies
twist in the fog

drip drip drip in goes the oil
out comes french mayonnaise

early morning rain
the dry sound inside the cabin
of oatmeal cooking

grandpa pours in a cup of rum
good for the health he says

Easter Sunday

indeed
he has risen
a momentous occasion
for all mankind

the oboes d'amore
sing his praise
on this glorious day

Easter Saturday

purple and yellow
the colours of easter
no flowers at the tomb

sunshine
hangs from a bough
awaiting tomorrow

 holds her breath turning blue
as they roll back the stone

Good Friday

consequences followed
the wages of sin
someone had to pay the price

and so
we learnt a better way to live
becoming followers of Christ

then over time
we forgot all about it
ignored the fact
that the human condition
self serving and dangerous
needs to be inculcated
with virtues
faith hope and charity
compassion and kindness

for most of us
the cross is something on a fruit bun
we eat on good friday
good because it is holidays

for others
it is a time of  overwhelming sadness
it is a time of regret and remorse
for the untold suffering we have caused
to each other
to our planet
to God
and we pray for forgiveness

Maundy Thursday

The temple bell stops but I still hear the sounds coming out of the flowers ..Matsuo.Basho

a field of flowers sings
to a young man awash
in sunshine yellow
of days to come
both terrible and wonderful

imaginary gardens with real toads

Carpe Diem Spring Kigo 2019

after the storm
the sea gives up its treasures
also its secrets

black sea glass
smashed poison bottles from
16th century ship wrecks

Villanelle

in the quiet of night
slight rustle of wings
a lone bird in flight

an apple she bites
discarded in a bin
in the quiet of the night

distressed by her plight
without her nice things
a lone bird in flight

no comfort or light
she ties flowers with string
in the quiet of the night

she espies a blue  kite
the  colour of ming
a lone bird in flight

she plays her small fife
after all it is spring
in the quiet of the night
a lone bird in flight
