Paddling With My Sweetheart

Sunday Writing... MLMM

paddling with my sweetheart in 1954
back then this considered good fun
but in 2018 not any more

instead
one could be glued to a cell phone
watching movies texting scorn
hacking into facebook
or getting  kicks from porn

there's little room
for simple romance kindness or compassion
in our advanced technological world
no more cruising down the river
with a cute old fashioned girl

Quadrille

she sat alone
in the church
looking dignified and lovely
in pistachio green
the sole representative of her daughter's family
at least the rain stayed away
in a few days she would be back home
drinking real  coffee reading the newspaper
smiling pinching herself

Sunday's Whirligig 162

This Week's Words come from " Hello Baihua Mountain" by Bel Dao:

guitar patches sign valley sunlight slits tale distant waterfall drifted hand abyss

patches of sunlight
beamed through the slits of sky
over the valley
the sound of  a distant waterfall
reminded her of the little girl lost in the forest fairy tale
she wished she had brought her guitar with her
she prayed for a sign
a hand to help her out of this abyss

Wordle #196 - MLMM

Parka - Raise - Security  -Absorption - Offend - Nearby
Bewilder  -Matchbook - Abrasion - Semicircle  -Noticeable  -Alice and Wonderland Syndrome

it must be noticeable
her going round in semicircles
her  self absorption
her insecurity
it's part of her condition
alice in wonderland syndrome

you seem bewildered
to see your phone number
written in her matchbook
on a nearby table
she would never offend you
or be abrasive
she was raised to be polite

all she wants is to share your parka
on a cold rainy night

Sunday's Whirligig 160

  Ethel and Ernest

flowers for her birthday
a card
a winter green coat
with big pockets
who could have guessed
such a lovely surprise
what next
running hot water
a music spin turn table
on reflection she was pleased she had married ernest
he worked hard was generous and thoughtful
it was a chance meeting
a bee sting had brought them together
