NAPOWRIMO APRIL 2026 ...Day 26, 27 , 28, 29, 30

 DAY 26

ARS POETICA

poetry
is the door
to the other realm
of magic truth and beauty
the language of love

poetry
should embrace you
in its warm arms
making you feel
you're home
like a person of few words
 who can communicate
without the endless torture
of rattling on and on and on
 writing poetry about a haircut

our wonderful Will
our greatest poet
claimed
"brevity is the soul of wit"
pity mr Pope didn't
get the message
poisoning generations of pupils
against poetry forever and forever

Day 27

there should always be two
really says who
it's nor easy sharing a life
says the poor suffering wife

two  can fight
with all their might
you can kiss reconcile and be friends
until it starts all over again

three's a crowd
menage a trois is not allowed
just doubles the trouble
boil and bubble

so what's the answer
live alone
be miserable and lonely
spend life on the phone

there is no answer
come what may
make the best of your lot
until your rendezvous
at the cemetery plot

DAY 28

Sorry you have no friends
most don't not real ones anyway
Sorry that old cab driver had never tasted
an ice cream so I bought him one
Sorry that life is so hard for you
if it's some comfort I will always be there for you

DAY 29

before
loads of energy
loads of fun
dancing the night away
being young
now
writing poems
dont like phones
peace and quiet
is what i want
sleeping in
no longer a sin

DAY 30

wish her
luck as you wave
her goodbye on her way
to make hay while the sun shines
oh dear me
what a hoot she is creating
all these verses and rhymes

sumer is icumen in
loude sing cuckoo
plenty of cuckoos about writing poetry
especially in April

NAPOWRIMO APRIL 2026 DAY 23, 24, 25

VILLANELLE

i like the quiet of a peaceful night
rather than the noise of a busy day
tis my magic time without bright lights

things are too frantic too much spite
in a troubled world no way jose
i like the quiet of a peaceful night

i'm tired of parties too many fights
i like to be at home do things my way
tis my magic time without bright lights

suppose i'm bit of a loner type
writing sad  poetry novels and plays
i like the quiet  of a peaceful night

yes folks i'm different quite right
rather work at home than out in the bay
tis my magic time without bright lights

straining my eyes ruining my sight
very poor pay for what I say?
i like the quiet of a peaceful night
tis my magic time without bright lights

DAY 24

the lights
are all out
the neighbourhood
lies in darkness
that star is speaking to me
again
i go inside
i don't want to know

DAY 25

strike me pink
this is a first
a small group of unaustralian scum bags
jeering and booing
at our solemn Anzac Day dawn service
today

met their match
outdone
out numbered
by the applause of huge crowd support
for our fallen soldiers

we mourn our soldiers
we thank them for their sacrifice
we celebrate them with a beer
and a game of two up
LEST WE FORGET

NAPOWRIMO... APRIL 2026...DAY 21, 22,

DAY 21

stinking benjamin
doesn't grace our shores
sweet william does
just gorgeous
along with kangaroo paws
and butter bush
found along railway tracks
indestructible
no one wants to be in contact
with gympie gympie
( the devil's toilet paper)
found in the rainforest
the sting can hospitalise you
for weeks
ah  yes the land of
poisonous plants
sea creatures insects
and venomous snakes
home sweet home

DAY 22

pauvre petite
you got through it
just a little girl
managing on her own
living on her wits
in a hostile time that frowned
on unwed mothers
you took a chance
against all the odds
against all the advice
it worked out
good for you
i'm proud of you

later on
he thanked you
for not having him
adopted out
the ultimate bonus

NAPOWRIMO...APRIL 2026 .....Day 16, 17 ,18, 19, 20

 Day 16

singapore orchids
good value
bought three weeks ago
greet me every morning
in the kitchen
bring a smile

flowers
they keep me going
beauty amongst
the bad news on tv

they are carefully tended
daily
repay me with their beauty
hard to find a smile these days
in these torrid times

many thanks to the supreme designer
for providing so much beauty
sadly
that most don't  even notice

DAY 17

plop
a water lily
dive bombed by
basho's frog

splashes and ripples
a rude awakening
the reeds giggle
the moon winks

DAY 18

including tigers and opera
tiger visits often
he loves tasty snacks
does not like opera
yowls if it's on tv
he's a very spoilt
little p...y cat you see
have not seen him for a while
something must have happened
found better snacks
somewhere else
or maybe something worse
guess we'll never know
miss that little p...y
the paranoid censor
will be having a w..sy
maybe he has joined his friend
the owl
gone to sea in a pea green boat
escaped
to the land where the bong tree goes
(the cat not the censor)

        DAY 19

he loves
taking photos
of flowers in my vase
he used to buy them for me every
friday
sadly
he can no longer buy them any more
we still have the photos
we still have each
other

DAY 20

oh it's all very well
shaving off your eyebrows
to signify your grief
at the demise of one of us

we are  god like creatures
it seems disrespectful
to expect  us to live
on a diet of snakes and mice

the pharoah doesn't
why should we
and while you're at it
egyptian cats don't like excessive noise
please tell those slaves to
stop moaning and groaning
while building those frightful pyramids

The Sunday Whirl ...

the stage set
was a blue sky peppered with fairy lights
covered in  sunflowers on red stalks
the harness
layered
with ribbons and jewels
lowered her on to the stage
a sensational splash debut for the pop star
with luck she saw him in the audience
his face beaming with joy
cheering her on

Saturday, 11 April 2026

The Sunday Whirl

 the space shuttle didn't crash
but slipped seamlessly into the
calm and glass like ocean on the landing day
the astronauts found to be  not rattled without a flicker of fear
pleased to be home

the lurking news corp ravenous for information
with the usual hollow rhetoric
not known to be ever red with shame
filling in time
Wonder what the man in the moon thinks about all of this?

NAPOWRIMO APRIL 2026 DAY 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

 SHAKESPEARE SONNET......AN ERASURE POEM

my mistress is more red than red
her beasts are no roses
her breath reeks
i love her
yet well i know
i grant never a goddess
my mistress treads on my love

My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is dare more red than her lips red;
If snow be white why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head,
I have seen roses damasked; red and white
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress when she walks treads on the ground
And yet by heaven I think of my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare

DAY 12

SHADORMAS FOR MA GRANDMERE

i still wear
your bracelet each day
think of you
and miss you

you taught me to sew french knots
to make mayonnaise
vinaigrette
sing charles aznavour
to love cats
to grow herbs
to arrange flowers and know
the beauty of life

DAY13

the bogey hole
a beautiful rock pool
at bronte beach
a cherished place
from infancy to old age
a sacred place for me
my ring still lies
wedged in rocks
at the bottom of the ocean
lost so many years ago
my gift to you

Bronte Beach Sydney

DAY 14

cell phones
a must have
there was a time
we could live without them
people would lunch together
chatting face to face
hard to believe nowadays
eh bien
c'est mieux avant

  DAY 15

she worked
an extra shift
to pay for the lessons
gave her a metronome
for her birthday
had no idea  what it was for
gave her that feeling
that she would always be safe with her
no matter what
a feeling that cannot be bought
call it love

NAPOWRIMO APRIL 2026... DAY 7.8 9,10

DAY 7

CENTO

CHARLES and WILL CHILL

I see you drinking at a fountain with tiny
blue hands, no your hands are not tiny
they are small
the fountain is in France
All the perfume of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand
where you wrote me that last letter and
I loved you

like a man loves a woman he never touches
only writes to, keeps little photographs of
Do you think I am easier to played on than a pipe?
Some, Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps
Next time, take my left arm or a fifty
but not my poems
I'm no Shakespeare
My words fly up my thoughts remain below
pretty soon everyone was yawning
but as God said, crossing his legs
I see where I have made plenty of poets
but not so very much poetry
