Sundays Whirligig

the stones
bathed in sunshine
baking in the fiery sun
trouble bare feet

ask for a hose
to spray the morning glory
and geraniums reeling from the heat

give the nasturtium seeds
peeping out of the crevices
a squirt as well

Stanley

 Stanley Spencer Artist
1891 - 1959

wandering up and down
the lanes with his pram
nowhere to go
poor stanley

leaves his wife and children

to marry a bloomsbury dyke
an unconsummated union
silly stanley

she keeps the girlfriend
the title
steals his house
tosses him out
poor stanley

paints jesus as a
clothed suomo wrestler
on all fours sniffing the flars

not the full catastrophe
strange stanley

trudging from pillar to post
bedsits and couches
homeless stanley

so they make him a knight
of the realm
sir stanley

when he leaves
to join the dementia unit
in the sky
cheery bye stanley

self appointed giant intellects
declare him a genius
clever stanley

sell his works for millions
you have to be rich
to buy a poor stanley

Neighbours

one two start attack
turn the volume up
let the rage begin
feel free to hurl
a few crispy phrases
keep it going till sun rise
if still yearning
to tell a few home truths
throw them in as well

Sunday Whirligig

the remains of a broken basket
keeps popping up in her dreams
sorrow swims in her jagged thoughts
she is missing her tresses
since the mad  pilgrim
chased her and sheared her head
saying it would make her wise

they called her the dragon woman
spewing flames and scorching hot ash
firing at the foe with some dash
then she met a mild mannered man
smitten sweet who bought her a fan
removed her thorns -fiddle dee dee
cooked lobster and crabs in a can
on the beach they danced by the sea

Sundays Whirligig

fever skirt germs hiding sharp suitcases cake
scissors carrying envelope swaying memory

the big green fever germ thief
jumped out of the suitcase

he knew what alice was hiding
under her skirt

the mad hatter had told him
about the wads of cash in an envelope
the cake and the memory stick
in her stockings

shrieking swaying and carrying on
did not distract him for a second
he remained undeterred by her threats
of using sharp scissors on him
