Dinosaur

from one dinosaur
to another
it's hard being stranded
on this planet

if you are out there
send smoke signal
or postcard
we can speak dinosaur
and
practise our handwriting
together

Ogden Nash

nothing wrong
with a little regression
into the  past

when girls
were soft rounded and cuddly
and boys knew to take your hand
kiss your finger tips
and say nothing

Bygone Days

doesn't look like a lot of fun
but better than having your throat cut
on your day off

For Le Pere Jacques Hamel

i wonder if she had any idea
of the effect  these words
had on her lazy teenager
they did not create a saint
or sword wielding
military personnel
but they did create
a warrior  with
a determination
and a will that could
possibly equal the maid's

an acceptance
an understanding
that life is warfare
a battle fought
to be won against
tyranny and barbarism
with saving graces
such as
mozart moments
magic and wonder
gentility and love
to soften the  brutality
in a world gone mad

oh breathe on me
breath of God

whirring softening hover garden peony patterns

Gregg Caudell

he loved weeding his garden
with its peonies burdock
and long stem roses
the patterns formed by shadows
in the dwindling afternoon light

it offered him an inner peace
like a small whirring humming bird
alighting on his heart
softening the jagged edge of  his loss

he knew she wouldn't be back

sun baking on the sand
her buttocks turned
the colour of cooked plums
bright as a parrakeet 's feathers
she will be standing
rather than sitting
for quite some time

Three Word Wednesday

bruise addicted wasteful

i don't want to see you bruised my friend
i don't want to see you murdered my friend
by addicted to violence brutal  racist cops

i don't want another person
wasted on the streets or in a car
for the heinous crime of being black

i don't want the life of a black poet
and a good friend of mine to be snuffed out
because of a nations's refusal to ban guns

because of a nation's refusal to
compensate and atone for the crimes
of the kidnapping and enslavement of africans
all the while
still claiming to be of the christian faith

because of a nation's discrimination
against a race who never  wanted to be
there in the first place and kept there
by force

apologies
atonement
generous compensation
reparations
and
an immediate end
to persecution
should be forthcoming
for a start
