Sunday Whirligig
cherry bough snow woodlands wearing seventy
spring hung tree again room roam bloom

when i grow old
i wont be able
to roam about the woodlands
toboggan in the snow
sing jazz in karioke bars again
wear cherry pink hair in spring
pick the fruit off low hung boughs
from my neighbour's lemon trees
i will probably just sit in my room
in hair rollers and big bloomers
wondering how i got to be seventy so soon

Sunday Whirligig

i have friends
who paint on burnt palm leaves
i have friends
born with a lisp
who cannot pronounce consonants
i have friends
who committed the sin of poverty
not being accountants they are
now buried in unmarked graves
i have brown and white friends
who trample my garden
and eat my azaleas
i have furry friends
who smashed a window
and broke into my pantry
bette midler sings
oh you gotta have friends
i've never been convinced

And He Shall Purify
<
Haibun 1
It is that time of year. The ancestors ring in our ears calling us back to our roots no matter where we are in the world and how far we have travelled, reminding us of who we are.
carols and choirs
cathedrals the messiah
tears for home
Haibun 2
For the 170000 Coptic Christian Martyrs murdered in the Middle East.
I return to a land, strange and unfamiliar. My home has gone. My ancient culture has been destroyed.
My ancestors voices have been silenced, buried under the desert sand, in an attempt to obliterate me.
and he shall purify
he will smite the wicked
in the end he will reign

ethanol fascination psychedelic roof atelier vociferate
washbasin heartbeat pollen frock velvet bolt
fascination with sniffing ethanol
increases the heartbeat and
produces psychedelic visions
sniffers vociferate psycho babble
convince themselves
they can fly off atelier roofs
ride a bolt of lightning
or try to bathe themselves in pollen
squeezing into a wash basin
much better idea to sit at home
with a nice cup of tea and hobnobs
in a velvet frock
watching a late night movie on the tele

A Christmas Choka
Carpe Diem Haiku Kai
christmas on the way
another year flies by
a time of wonder
for the lucky families
building memories
of wrapped gifts and christmas trees
yet a touch of sadness
grips the world by its lapels
casting a thin pall
on the merriment and fun
refugees and war
cannot be eradicated
by tinsel and carols
love your children well
give thanks if you can feed them
too many cannot
may the christmas spirit live
in all your poetic hearts

cheese sun dogs curl jars molest calm aubade
moonlight searching nightmares impotent

dogs howl to the big cheese moon
on these nights warning the stars
the innocent the protected
curl up calm in bed
in sweet sleep
unlike the molested
being abused in the moonlight
by trusted figures of authority
men fearful of impotence
inflicting horror
to compensate for inadequacy
to satiate their depravity
the sun rises
its rays refracting on the broken souls of the victims
like splintered shards of glass jars
l'aube
will always be a nightmare
for the abused
many wishing not to awake at all
destined for a life of suffering
always searching for peace

whalebone dread apathy aperture reach
fanatic throw nails track vein
dreading the whalebone corset fitting
veins throbbing in her temples
her nails digging into clenched hands
clinging to the bed post
she decided to throw in the towel
resolving not to reach for the stars
not to be fanatical about her appearance
any longer
she would now step out with a thickening waist line
ditch the powdered wigs and scratching sticks
sew up all the designated apertures in her lingerie
cut her hair and have a warm bath every week
without her modesty smock
even in the cold winter months
besides aubrey would never notice
he was apathetic about these matters
only interested in horses the race track and his hounds

molecules crow alarm poppy wasp clumsy
spider sunny shouts begrudge whirl pulling
the crow shouts the alarm
not wanting to begrudge
the others a meal
they descend in a whirl
picking the bones clean
pulling at the last molecules
devouring road kill with relish
the spider meanwhile has caught
a clumsy wasp in its web
amongst the red poppies
just another sunny day
where the life ritual of
death and renewal is being borne out
under a bright blue sky
