Shadorma

my drive song
keeps me wide awake
eyes open
moon lit farms
magic misty scenery
cool breeze on my face

a night drive
with trucks whizzing by
hit the road
keep driving
to nowhere and anywhere
all roads end somewhere

New Years Eve - Troiku

Create a ‘fusion ku’ and then a Troiku on the theme of New Year’s Eve based on two haiku by Jane Reichhold

a new year
rising from wild seas
a few stars

filling
the glass with candlelight
champagne

Jane Reichhold

popping champagne corks
the sky alight with fireworks
new years eve again

Troiku

popping champagne corks
cheers and roars from the crowd
i slide the doors shut

the sky alight with fireworks
millions of dollars in flames
for fun fifteen minutes

new years eve again
party downstairs deafening
can't find my ear plugs

THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "A Ritual to Read to Each Other" by William E. Stafford: should shrug cruelty darkness discourage miss know horrible tail fool  lost fragile

you should miss her
but she knows you don't
you walk away with a shrug
as if she never existed
you did nothing to discourage her
horrible men with little horns and tails
are drawn to her like moths to a flame
lost and fragile she is a fool to expect anything else
cruelty and darkness are part of her life

Renga With Basho Carpe Diem - Meditation # 64

Basho

feeling holy
the tears that stain
fallen leaves
my boat is so small
must you take that too

withering wind
is the fragrance still attached
to the late-blooming flower
her lack lustre petals torn
she had not  noticed

sweeping the garden
the snow forgotten
by the broom
like so many forgotten
by their families

the paulownia leaf
moves on the autumn wind
frost in the ivy
a cold thought flying in the breeze
a lonely time for the homeless

under a crescent moon
the ground is hazy
with blackwheat flowers
field mice scuttle about
gorging themselves with seeds

cattle shed
dark sound of mosquitoes
in summer heat
blow flies buzzing about
the steaming cow pats

nice gals need a break
time to  relax
put their feet up
watch the telly

would be a lovely christmas treat as well
if he could sing italian arias
that would be even better

Sundays Whirligig

i love winter's end
find the cold keeps playing havoc
with my aging bones
feel as if i have been dropped from
the dome of saint peter's basilica
dragged behind a chariot in the valley of the kings
my stars say
i must ensure my limbering up exercises
are less strenuous in the future

THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "Lines for Winter" by Mark Strand: cold, dome, valley, bones, keep, play, stars, find, end, limber, winter, love

A Christmas Card To Jesus

it must have been freezing
in the stable that night
being homeless in the winter
is tough
no room at the inn
all doors closed to you

just think
this is happening
all over the world
on the very night i write
and tragically
not as a part of a nativity play

thank you for being born
sometimes i see glimmers of you
in the best of us
but at this time of year
around your birthday
i see a lot more of it where i live
a joy that is usually absent for the most part

we light up our little worlds  with fir trees and holly
with baubles  tinsel and fairy lights to celebrate
gifts smiles and generosity
it's lovely

for some of us it's the only time
we think of you
before returning to our busy all consuming lives

for others it's a p.c. 'happy holiday' spending spree
your name and memory of your birth banished
history being eradicated in the hope you will disappear
from the consciousness of your creation

but you dear patient just and merciful God
you are the perpetual light of the world
your light systemically papered over
by mammon and his magical dollar notes
jollied along by satan ' if it feels good it is good '
enjoying the best p,r. and score points he has had  in years

consequently
we all live a lot of the time in darkness
being careful not to mention the J word or referring to the scriptures
in order to avoid  discrimination social leprosy sky fairy ridicule
interesting labels such as repressed nutters dangerous loonies phobic etc

oh well
some heaadway has been made
they don't feed us to the lions anymore
or use us as human torches  to light up the Appian Way
not in the west at least

CHRISTMAS WISHES

peace on earth
good will to all men
we wish
we  hope
we pray

you have been waiting for 2000 years
we have not managed it yet
i expect your  endless patience and optimism
is being tested

maybe next year sometime

Sunday's Whirligig

awesome kisses missing acrobat apron  chord
aim afraid play test goodbye admire

i have always admired the way you
toss your pancakes like an acrobat
testing the fragility of the hanging light shade
aiming at the ceiling
you in your butcher's apron
playing the saucepan with spoons
to the chords of  all i want for christmas is you

i'm afraid i am missing you
sending  awesome kisses
goodbye for now

GOODBYE TO AUTUMN - Carpe Diem # 1556

wrapped in autumn leaves
he presents us with fine gifts
treasures of russet and gold
a delicious poetic feast

 TROIKU

walking on the heath
in the light of the full moon
the scent of autumn

walking on the heath
feeling one with a Shepherd
in contact with God

in the light of the full moon
laying down in the meadow
the River of heaven

the scent of autumn
feelings of departure and loneliness
tears in the puddle

TANKA

autumn departs
in deep silence willow leaves fall
tears on this grave
as the willow is green again
another year has gone

Carpe Diem # 1554 Modern Kigo

vacant stares
from the vacant house
no one looks

smashed glass and grafitti
desperate souls have flown

of the remote coast

Girl Things

the journey up the stairs
takes far longer than it used to
i remember my grandmother
shuffling about saying
never have a house with stairs when you get old
at the time it seemed unimaginable that i could ever be
as old as my grandmother

they tell a story
a woman's bibs and bobs
pink glow in the rain
