NapoWriMo Day 27- 28. 29 30

DAY 27...SISTERS RENOIR

often wondered
about this title
all made clear
when you disclosed your secret to me
years ago
no
they are not sisters

DAY 28

 FINE KNACKS FOR LADIES

dinner parties
must have been great fun
in elizabethan times
we have lost a lot

DAY 29

a unique blue velvet voice
melting hearts softening souls
world wide acclaim
yet imprisoned because she was
the wrong colour
shameful

DAY 30

where are they now
these little french boys
hatching a plot
grandads now
some have passed
a baguette without wrapping
thing of the past
a more innocent time
yesterday when i was young

NaPoWriMo 2025 Day 24 - 26

 Day 24

a magical moment
an entire city
swept up in wonder
the voices of angels
bewitching us
et bien sur
delibes etait francais
just sayin'
(my grandmother told me to say that:)

Day 25

heard your recording
when i was seventeen
totally overwhelmed
knew then
this was my path
became consumed with this goal

imagine
when i learnt the news
you were coming here
to perform and teach
it wasn't a rumour
the music world was abuzz
with excitement

dropped to my knees
when I received notification
that I had passed the audition
to be accepted as a student
and that's how it all began

DAY 26

knock knock who's there
a laughing stock
who will set your teeth on edge
with all his rants
a swaggering fool
neither here nor there
definitely not there
sending the world on a wild goose chase
someone who has seen better days
it's a foregone conclusion
the truth will out one day
for goodness sake
how has he managed to bedazzle
folk into voting for him
tis madness
meanwhile lie low
wait with bated breath
till it all comes full circle
and hope
all's well that ends well
eventually

NaPoWriMo 2025 ...Day 21 - 25

DAY 21

A Vermeer Gone Wrong

"I am not one and simple, but complex and many" Virginia Wolf

inhabitant of the outback
and harbourside concurrently
a swimmer
unsteady
tearful
volatile
abrasive
surreal
hands on
hands dirty
a mixed brew
steeped in high culture
theology
and the gentle arts
a politically incorrect
boho chick
a vermeer gone wrong

 DAY 22

in my house
it was thought

a young girl
should be educated
by the nuns
play the piano
sing in the choir
speak french
sing french songs

i remember you singing along
with tino rossi
berceuse de jocelyn
while slicing the vegetables
in the kitchen
a lovely memory

thick accents prevailed at home
we had a black labrador
called ducky
t'was only after many many years
i realised that his real name
was darkie

it was thought
a young girl
should know how
to embroider french knots
to cook french cuisine
to create a palace
out of a tin shed

making everything yourself was a priority
to know
that money was not a priority
and to create beauty
in everything
was

merci memere
merci maman
for the rich traditional experience
it wasn't always appreciated
but am  truly truly grateful
now

Day 23

muttering to yourself
you look as if you have been drinking
raucous shrieking
look as if you have been
in a bar room brawl
such a comical bird you are
cocky
think you were an aussie
the way you carry on

NaPoWriMo 2025....Day 16 - 20

 1968

sitting watching you on tv in a beachside flat
the waves crashing on the shore
a wonderful accompaniment to the chopin
 totally overwhelmed by your brilliance
yet at the same time feeling sad and fraught at what had happened to you
 relating to it so well
i was so young just starting out
 yet as old as methusela
even as a child
they always said she's been here before

t'was beautiful easter weather just like now
that evening is so clear in my mind
more than half a century ago
i even remember what i was wearing

Day 17... Friendship

SHADORMA

two french girls
at home after school
practising
the piano
nothing's changed too much except
the school uniforms

lovely friends
helping each other
exam time
tomorrow
madame chabrier  is a
known perfectionist

DAY 18
GOOD FRIDAY

the beach
was closed today
the gulls
unusually quiet and still
gathered in large groups on the sand
the waves dangerous and furious
exploded on the shore
the chorus of the St Matthew Passion
ringing in my ears

DAY 19
Cinquain

forgot
to buy the eggs
the chocolate easter eggs?
not true someone ate all of  them
 (sigh) MEN !

DAY 20....to the tune of Waltzing Matilda

once a silly sheila
driving to the great outback
thought it would be easy
a piece of cake
and she sang as she passed by lovely looking butterflies
till she discovered her car was full of brown snakes
big brown bastards big brown bastards
big brown bastards down with all aussie snakes
so she hailed down a truckie go on luv please be a sport
a lift to the airport would be a heaven sent break

NaPoWriMo....DAYS 13-15

DAY 13.....A Golden Glow from an Old Painting with a sprinkling of music.

Boticelli

miss simonetta vespucci
a six hundred year old famous beauty
never ceases to delight us
with her translucent serenity
sun streaked hair adorned with jewels
but not more so than
my marmalade boy
who is also a beauty
his soft fur is sunshine
a smile amongst the daisies
his  vibrato purrs serenading
me to sleep soundly at night

DAY 14......Dodoitsu Form 7 7 7 5

roses and piano music
brings a smile to a sad face
it's been so long since you wrote
i miss you a lot

i know you've forgotten me
all in all not surprising
you'll always be my dodo
and still in my thoughts

DAY 15

NaPowriMo...2025...Days 10 - 12

DAY 10

flibbertygibit
our english teacher's favourite word
flighty flirty gels are not welcome here
fortiter et suaviter is our motto

sedete in silencio|
our latin teacher's instruction
at the beginning of every lesson
ad majoram dei gloriam
the heading that graced each page of our books
as we translated caesar's gallic wars and discussed
aquinas' summa theologica

and from this medieval stronghold setting
of gregorian chant and palestrina masses
we were hurled headlong into a world
where we discovered
the beatles and the rolling stones
gathering moss was never a consideration
from then on

Day 11....Song titles

open cupboard doors
clothes strewn all over the place
these foolish things remind me of you

the lid left off the toothpaste
reams of paper overflowing from the book cases
you drive me crazy 0oo   0oo

but when you're smiling
when you're smiling
you make me feel like dancing

what is this thing called love
i've got you under my skin
i'd do anything for you dear anything

you go to my head
like a sip of sparkling burgundy brew
OH NO !

the hills are alive with the sound of music

NOT AGAIN!

i saw this thing coming out of the sky
it had one long horn and one big eye
i commenced shaking and i said ooh -eee
it looks like a purple people eater to me
the doctor did warn me about these hallucinations

arrivederci
goodbye  my love goodbye
sorry seems to be the hardest word
i'm leaving on a jet plane
don't know when i'll be back again

DAY 12.....Susannah and the Elders

those perverted elders
should really have known
the size and name of the trees
rather than fixating on the size
of the imaginary protagonist's  member

twas a risky business back then
bathing alone in the open air
in a walled garden
they were foiled by their botanical ignorance
it saved Susannah's life

even now tis risky
to take a morning walk
on a lovely spring day
the hills are not always alive with the sound of music
no more song bursts
sotto voce from now on

NaPoWriMo 2025...... Day 9

DAY 9

some days are for dancing
whirlwind style prancing
flying so high reach for the sky
turmoil surrounds us worries galore
not a good time in history again for the poor
so dance the night away just like leo said
better that than fretting  crying lying in bed
one day that billionaire bastard will hopefully be gone
hit by a golf ball splayed out on the lawn
the sun will shine we'll all smile again
meanwhile keep on dancing until his well deserved end

NaPoWriMo 2025...Poem A Day for APRIL (DAYS 1-- 8)

An early bird prompt for those who lead the world in time ...PORTRAIT POEM

lonely times
a young traveller starting out
knew no one
visited you almost daily
in the national gallery
on my lunch break

derived some solace
from your lovely gentle face
left and went elsewhere
forgot about you
until years later when
i saw you in that hong kong bar

Portrait of Man With A Quilted Sleeve....Titian. 1510... National Gallery London

DAY 1......Musical Terminology

with age
she is not as 'sharp'
as she used to be
sometimes a little 'flat'
moves mostly to an 'andante' tempo
these days
plays bach daily 'dolce expressivo'
mainly 'lento'
on occasion she tackles an 'etude' by chopin
the 'A minor' winter wind is her favourite
'con brio accelerando'
then takes a long 'pause '
for the 'rest' of the day

DAY 2......GREEK GODS

from where i'm sitting
you are delusional narcissus
your curse still infects
endangers the world

a rose is a rose is a rose
of all the flowers methinks
the rose is the best
gertrude and will know best

DAY 3

SHADORMA

she excelled
in  the subjects of
music art
literature
her mother said jack of all trades
and master of none

she was wrong
she mastered the lot
scholarships
the whole shebang
tossed the lot
became a creative hippy
a wand'ring minstrel

NOT HAPPY CRESSIDA!

DAY 4.....WDYS PROMPT

rock a bye baby
on the tree tops
tranquillity
not a cloud in the sky
bliss

unbeknowns
to the sleeping beauty
resting on a branch
over the horizon
a storm is brewing
soon it will be
rock goodbye baby

NAPOWRIMO PROMPT.... A Painting

with my first pay packet
almost half a century ago
i bought the milk maid print

she has taken pride of place
in my kitchen and
has been with me ever since

she has been witness to the
numerous changes in my life
knows me better than anyone else

when the time comes to leave her
it will be a wrench
i shall miss her

DAY 5

mio dio
ma che cazzo
this is an aria amore mio
you sound like 100 tin cans
falling out of a volvo
almost gave me a heart attack
this  is not musique concrete you know
there's a good reason for that saying
in the music world
there are musicians
and then there are singers

DAY 6

Oranges

a fresh juice
a daily ritual
gurgling sliding
down the hatch
ending with
an irreverent belch
instead of taking sips
like a polite young lady

Day 7-

Renoir.. The Bathers

never could be this cool
skinny dipping starkers
with a group of hot chicks
possess all the slick phrases
hip lingo
to make it appear so
but in reality
just a boring old music teacher
stuck fast in her groove

Renoir....de L'Orangerie

DAY 8 .....CHOKA

The Di Is Cast

"whatever love is"
he announced to the whole world
who cringed with the shock
he did not bother to lie
how must she have felt
with this surprising bomb blast
pretty obvious
that this was not a love match
on his part at least
