one drink too many
could have her romping
amongst the gin blooms
her loose lips could sink a few ships
oh the stories she could tell

because of tropical visions
she took a brain scan
the doctor said
your cerebellum is burgeoning with beauty
someone should paint it

in her yellow alice band
she waltzed through the flowers
a tropical vision
in a billowing black taffeta skirt
under the watchful eye of red parrot
squawk...i told you
never touch a bottle that says "drink me"

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the  servant and has forgotten the gift.  Albert Einstein

Curtal Sonnet ...You Choose

Baryshnikov as a teenager Baryshnikov as an adult they all perform magnificently
jetes and pirouettes across the stage
the audience transfixed and delighted
these wunderkind dancing our dreams
how do we choose numero uno
when confronted with such splendour

i chose immediately jumping out of my seat
it was easy as it might be for you too
cultural preferences playing its own pas de deux
rarely unbiased even if unconscious
you choose

Day 27

when it's all too hard
crawl into bed
pull the covers over you head

when it's all too hard
immerse yourself in a hot
bubble bath by candle light

when it's all too hard
try to sleep to the soft notes
of a ginger puss purring

when it's still  too hard
pick up a phone
you will feel better
when you hear his voice

Happy Birthday Will

A Cento For Will

Day 26

come hither
and be you blythe and bonny
make me a willow cabin at your gate
under the greenwood tree
not a mouse shall disturb this hallowed house
i know a bank whereon the wild thyme blows
with sweet musk roses
trip no further pretty sweeting
journeys end in lovers' meeting
i must go seek some dew drops here
and hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear
come kiss me
love's not with the eyes but with the mind

Nursery Rhyme

Day 25

there once was a girl  called  cressie
who found a  sweet little friendlee
in the parsley patch down by the primrose
they frolicked in the meadow all day long

returning to her teapot cottage in the evening
to eat fairy bread with a runcible spoon
she heard a knock at the door
t'was jemima puddle duck

cressie opened the door  slowly
and said
"in my mind i'm going to Carolina
there is no one here jemima
i've gone to search for something finer
cos i've gone to carolina in my mind -ah "

New York School Poem

 Day 24

OK
so you know about
the italian movie star
don't seem to be able
to hide too much from you

i prattle on
about the minutiae of life
jolly golly ha ha
this cheerful insouciant
camaraderie is not fooling you
i know that you know

you are waiting for me
to say it

i am not saying it

it will inflate your ego
into a giant batman balloon
floating over the city on a
St Patrick's Day Parade

i am not saying it

instead
i will discuss parsley
mushrooms
the finer points of
Fra Angelico till
they leak out of my ears

i am not saying it

for once being a coward
is going to save me from
making a complete fool of myself
unless of course you read this poem

Love In The TIme Of Seashells

Day 23

the clouds drifted
across the incised moon

he appeared in his peruvian hat
and strawberry top

come rest your heavy bonnet
on my shoulder blade sea cat

i will wrap you in leather donax
and take you for a ride in the
woody canoebubble

we can play shuttlecock volva
under the striped engina

if you win i will give you

a lazarus jewel box

I  know you love this
Think of me when you listen
It should have been me

You made a mistake
In letting me go and  I
Know you regret it

the time has come
to cease the  hum
must sing in tune
find work no fun

it's in the moon
i must go soon
obey the signs
or face my doom

i'll follow the line
hope all will be fine
and if it is not
will take up red wine

find a nice spot
somewhere  humid and hot
try to find peace
worrying not a jot

Good Friday

 Free Verse

the crack of the whip
splitting the air with blood splatter

banging of nails in hands and feet
the crack of breaking legs, a spear
rips the side - agony

a pitiful sight of thorns spit
mangled limbs and sadism

the crowd shouts for more
craving blood sport
not knowing this was for them

mind you gratitude is
not a hallmark of humanity

in spite of the sacrifice
and all that it entailed
the mark of cain is still upon us

our barbarism is more polished
with smoke and mirrors

and now
we have our own "ice" age

a visit from a giant asteroid
will undoubtedly occur at some stage
if we insist on dancing duets with satan

tripping the dark angel fandango with
gay abandon squeezing camels
through the eyes of needles

Terza Rima

the time has come for you to face your fate
tis your destiny and you must comply
it will be, your suffering now awaits

they jeer and shout and tell some awful lies
the pain swirls round, you cannot take it in
your mother's tears just fill the world with sighs

everywhere evil satan and his kin
stain mankind with jealousy envy greed
and  He must suffer  pay for all our sins

we must give thanks to Him who for us died

the idea was initially exciting
restoring it to former glory
filling all the cavernous cracks
holding generations of family secrets
the creaks  and sighs in the wind
howling on the plains at night

we would sit by the fire at night
planning the next day t'was so exciting
listening to the howling wind
days were lovely a  sunny glory
we dug the soil to release its secrets
its hard and dry face lined with cracks

the weatherboards were full of cracks
we would prepare the filler at night
a special mixture mingled with our secrets
the enormous project loomed exciting
we would restore this house to its former glory
going to bed exhausted to the howls of the wind

sleeping fitfully in  gale force wind
the rain seeping through the cracks
dreams of a garden of mauve  morning glory
filled the raging  stormy night
thunder and lightning exciting
thor's hammerings disturbing nature's  secrets

we had discovered all of the house's secrets
and managed to block out the wind
the project was becoming less exciting
we finally filled all the cracks
no sound of wind or rain at night
sleeping soundly in our king size  glory

after years t'was drudgery not  glory
our lives led to  new secrets
one of us started working late at night
all our  dreams were gone with the wind
life  developed the cavernous cracks
t' was anything but exciting

stripped of  glory tainted with  dark secrets
the consequences of exciting late nights
predicted a future of ill wind riddled with cracks

I love these little earrings
I think they look quite look cute
I bought them at the op shop

I 'll wear them on our  date
And hope you wont be late
Cos if it's more than ten minutes
You'll be stood up at the gate

Day 10

nasturtium and morning glory
wound together in pale sunshine

 beaming orange and mauve
 in the garden

lying on an old door used as a trestle table
chestnut braids dangling so long they almost touched the ground

she fingered mrs parke's prize winning geraniums
resisting the urge to pick a big magenta bunch

lazy butterflies fluttered over the lantana bush
to Ravel's rippling triplets wafting in from next door

was the first time she had ever heard this extraordinary piece
to be etched in her memory forever

would have liked to have shared this moment with someone
other than the spotted lady bird crawling up her leg

 Green buddhas

 orange and green
 banana seated buddhas
 place joss sticks on
 the altar of the
 temple with offering of fruit
 trying to make a stand
 against poverty proclaiming we
are beings that need to eat
 and cannot live on the

 hurl incantations and spit
Dictators they cry must get out

expensive cavities in their teeth
