As legend has it, Gough Whitlam a former Australian Prime Minister, once found himself in an audience with the Queen and also a corgi - the hound in question interrupted matters of state with an extended, toxic fart. "That was obviously the corgi," ventured Gough. "Who else?" replied the Queen.

the queen's old corgi
farts quietly in the breeze
as she walks behind
queen's old corgi
last in the long line of pets
now pushes up daisies
farts quietly in the breeze
'whisper' the queen's dog relaxes
royal protocol
as she walks behind
her majesty feels grateful a queen
always walks ahead

Sahohime no haru tatsu nagara shito o shite
Princess Saho
stands when pissing
at the beginning of spring
waga oya no shinuru toki ni mo he o kokite
even when
my father lay down dying
I kept farting
kaze samushi yabure-shooji no kannazuki
cold wind
through our torn paper doors
in the month without gods *
all souls day looming large
ominous in november

These haiku are beauties, the first two more hilarious, but that third
on is in my opinion a masterpiece worth reading often and aloud.
I hope you did like the read, but now your task ... I love to challenge
you to create a new haiku inspired on the given haiku trying to touch
the same tone and sense. And than ... I love to challenge you to create a
Troiku with the haiku you have created. Have fun ...!
Ah, the poor, poor queen, having to walk through poor quality air!
ReplyDeleteHa! I had a good chuckle with these. XD
ReplyDelete-HA
I enjoyed these haiku sets very very much!!❤️
ReplyDeleteTaking up your challenge, and appreciating the Corgi:
ReplyDeleteFarting the rhythm
of a trumpet tune, marching
ahead of the beat.
Big grin on my face. The Corgi Who Dared to Fart on a Queen............I so love dogs. They are so real and unapologetic!
ReplyDeleteOften people say 'where was god when I needed him'; sadly they are looking in the wrong places. However I enjoyed the haiku very much.
ReplyDeleteThese are super clever. I must remember to act like a queen and walk ahead of my dog. These made me smile.
ReplyDeleteIn both sets, yours and the other, the first two made me roar and the last... made me sigh.
ReplyDeleteThis corgi was a lucky dog! And I sort of agree with Sherry - definitely apologetic about doing what nature intended!
ReplyDeleteI didn't stop chuckling from your first lines to the last. : )
