what a terrible time
this has been
pandemic
death of friends
loss of jobs
slips and falls
promises broken
citizens betrayed by politicians
when lo and behold
suddenly
amongst the unsuspecting shoppers
ambling about like pelicans in the supermarket
the angels appear with their instruments
giving a heavenly choir performance
good enough to stop traffic
a breath taking experience
for all the shoppers
to remember
watch this
look at their faces

A musical flash mob!! It was fun reading about it. I've never seen one of those but it would be a good relief from all the shooting around here. Four children were shot in the Houston area last week.

There is much to be said about taking art into the center of the wound. Remember The Cellist of Sarajevo? The Sarajevo symphony had been silenced during the shelling of the city, many of its members had been killed by snipers: yet one of its members, a cellist, went out each day and settled into the latest bomb craters to play Bach. That's the response to our daily ongoing tragedies. Thanks for sharing this. A sudden flash of joy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful moment, and poem to go with it!
ReplyDeleteA violinist played in Grand Central Station once and I was amazed at how many people didn't take notice back then. Today, it would be a wondrous gift as the arts have taken a pause.
ReplyDelete"Ambling about like pelicans in the supermarket" - how I love that image!
ReplyDeleteThe video made me cry. It reminded me of 'Andy plays Mozart' in The Shawshank Redemption. Suddenly we receive this overwhelming reminder of our humanity, which we have been conditioned to neglect.
ReplyDeleteClassical Music has this effect....the reason it should be compulsory in our education systems from primary school onwards. You could tell by the faces a lot of these people had never heard Handel before and were very moved. Good comment..Thank you
ReplyDeleteThe only thing better than seeing (and listening to) humans being good to each other is seeing them being good to each other beautifully. I love the performance. And I really enjoyed your poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this.
