NAPOWRIMO 2018

Day One

 Easter Saturday Vigil

she found him by chance
in the small box room
a  little old hunched leprechaun
intelligence twinkling
out of his bright blue eyes

in a lovely lilting irish brogue
he blessed her
gifting her a  paschal candle
wrapped in golden  healing words

she would have liked
to put him in her purse
to take him home with her

tomorrow he will be gone

Day Two

Shadorma

low impact
i 'm always alone
in a crowd
reclusive
don't recall my companions
they were never friends

at dinners
i can do small talk
with fixed smile
nod a lot
but i'm elsewhere in the head
wishing i were home

i love home
home my sanctuary
with my thoughts
with my words
my self contained wonder world
filled with dreams and joy

Day Three

Aussie Bands

KILLING HEIDI
was
INXS

MENTAL AS ANYTHING
TEX DEDLY AND THE DUMS DUMS
SEVERED HEADS
with a
COLD CHISEL

THE CHANTOOZIES
threw
SILVER CHAIRs
 at
IAN DRURY AND THE BLOCKHEADS
in a
SAVAGE GARDEN

NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS
BOOM CRASH'd OPERA
with
GUNS N ROSES
at the
CROWDED HOUSE

all of them
a bunch of
BUSH WHACKERS

Day Four

a sunburst
a heart exploding
a tsunami of joy
the radiance of that smile

he shook her hand
a spark of connection/love ignited
from the firmness of that grip
like clinging to a raft
in the tempest
it was a gift from both
to each other

reluctant to let go
she stamps it on her memory
before it pales
floats away with the receding tide
and gives thanks
over and over again

a precious response
something not seen for years
a smile from the heart

Day 5

Robert Doisneau....Un Regard Oblique

Westfalenlied by Emil Rittershaus

ihr mogt den Rhein, den stolzen, preisen,
Der in dem Schoß der Reben liegt;
Wo in den berger ruht das Eisen

taking the mrs for a sunday stroll
along the boulevard
voila my favourite painting
Wow  better than a cheese burger

Da hat die Mutter mich gewiegt.
Hoch auf dem Fels die Tannen steh’n,
Im grünen Tal die Herden geh’n,
Als Wächter an des Hofes Saum
Reckt sich empor der Eichenbaum

i bought the old girl a new hat
i remember when
she looked like that ripe peach
Alas I could never get her
to wear the black stockings( far too catholic)
retch...sick emperor she said

da ist’s, wo meine Wiege stand,
O, grüß’ dich Gott, Westfalenland
-

this is what happens when you don't take a stand
O you grub said God, i'm sending you out west

 Day 6

the sun is lower
the light has changed
time to follow the road north
in a few weeks
the sea bares her cold face
for the next six months
the seagulls' delicate orange feet
leave perfect patterns on the sand
they stare out at the toy sail boat
a speck on the horizon
the shags dive next to her
unafraid
as she locks eyes with them
she had never noticed that they were blue before
it is  always sad to say goodbye to summer
still
autumn is such a beauty
it will be nice to smell her fresh fragrance again

the cool season
scatters her leaves
red and gold

Heeding Haiku with Chevrefeuille - MLMM

Day 7

young girls
brilliantly gifted
supremely athletic
beautiful and graceful
glide and triple turn
for the top prize
only one can win

some trip
fall like skittles
a lapse in concentration
that's all it takes
gasp
years of discipline
years of work
erased in a fleeting second
her heart in her mouth
like a huge sponge
soaks it up
all that pain and disappointment

the  vicarious stress of it
sweating bullets
as if she hadn't been there before
she turns off the tv
studies the ice in her drink
sighs
swirling the imponderable maze of life
with a swizzle stick

Day 8

Triquaine

                  merry tunes
              played on the violin
boccherini soothes the soul at sea
water water everywhere not a drop to drink
fierce sun on the equator no rain
                weevils in the biscuits
                   life at sea

Day 9

when big things meet little things
 in the sea the outcome
is not optimal for small fry

 in a biblical situation
where gargantua is thick slow
and needs to go to spec savers
little wins the day and becomes
poster boy for the underdog

 sometimes when little meets big
it works very well
big can lift weights
without going to the gym
an altogether better experience
getting fit at the same time

Write a poem about multiple events happening at once.
Day 10

captain loony
had difficulties captaining his small vessel
his aging mother had fallen in love with a news reader
convinced he was her long lost husband
missing and pronounced dead in the war

his demented great aunt was stockpiling gasoline
to scorch earth all her properties in vanuatu
she heard on the news the chinese were coming

he was having a dispute with the neighbours
who were ghetto blasting die fuehrer's speeches
in the early hours
his cats had developed nervous disorders
and he was suing them for the exorbitant vet bills

began kickin' ass and takin' names
the alpha sea dog made powerful enemies
anyway if he was goin' down he would go down
singin'

  8. Beautiful, and all too brief, just like a spring blossom. This left me a bit melancholy, but still made me smile.

  15. Day 7 - It seems unfair of them to invest an entire lifetime of discipline, only to have it unravel on the world's stage at but the slightest of mental lapse... I have a great deal of empathy for those poor skaters.

You capture this scene well, as well as the observer one degree removed from the action.
