THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "Peering Up From Mud" by Margarita Engle: frogs, beauty, pretend, stars, moonlight, pass, sing, flashing, see, taste, clear, air
frogs croak in the moonlight
i see the stars passing flashing in the milky way
pretend i can touch them with my finger tips
a taste of beauty on the plains
whilst the lark in the clear air
sings thousands of miles away
“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.” ~ Eleonora Duse
Why concentrate on the croaking frogs when you can listen to the lark singing? You've compressed many paradoxes into this tiny poem. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteTo me, this is not only a beautiful and thought-provoking poem, but a masterful application of the prompt words with economy and effectiveness as well. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThe larks singing in Europe thousands of miles away are but a memory you cling to I suspect. Whatever the reason it is a beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteLove that contradiction in distances.. beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think you were touched by the Goddess when you wrote this...truly inspired!
