Aled Jones - Sundays Whirligig 147

For My Grandmother And My Great Aunt

THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "Peering Up From Mud" by Margarita Engle: frogs, beauty, pretend, stars, moonlight, pass, sing, flashing, see, taste, clear, air

frogs croak in the moonlight
i see the stars passing flashing in the milky way
pretend i can touch them with my finger tips
a taste of beauty on the plains
whilst the lark in the clear air
sings thousands of miles away

“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.” ~ Eleonora Duse

  1. Why concentrate on the croaking frogs when you can listen to the lark singing? You've compressed many paradoxes into this tiny poem. Amazing!

  3. The larks singing in Europe thousands of miles away are but a memory you cling to I suspect. Whatever the reason it is a beautiful poem.

  7. You had me at "frogs croak". That sound always brings to mind the live wonder of spring, the beauty of being part of Nature, of being one with her...
