Sunday's Whirligig 128
THIS WEEK'S WORD
the vagrant got a kick out of
his sleep over memories
reminiscing when he was a kid
nights of yarning way too much
shaking with laughter with friends
watching the grey mist over the ocean
the white spume of the waves
listening to the song of the sea
he was the least likely person
to ever end up in this position
at the bottom rung of the ladder
Words from " Sea Fever " John Masefield
song grey spume mist vagrant kick
yarn laughing shaking sleep over way
One can never predict the position on the ladder.
ReplyDeleteWe never know where we may end up on the ladder
ReplyDeleteA vagabond has home all over the world!
ReplyDeleteThere's something to be said for ending up on the bottom rung of the ladder, and I think it is this: The view from there is truer than from anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteA vey poignant poem, vagrants, refugees, veterans, so many souls end up in this position, thanks for raising awareness.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing where we find ourselves sometimes. I like the comfort his happy memories give him.
ReplyDeletethanks for your poem here as Amrit said above me, no one knows where life will lead them to. but as you're saying above states, you just keep moving and living cause when you've done so, you can look back and see that the mountain you've climbed. well-said.
ReplyDeleteLove the quote and love the vagrant's journey....it sounds all too familiar for each of us!

Perhaps the story of many a vagrant. Life can change in a heartbeat. Well written!
ReplyDeleteThere is much to reflect on here. And as you said it is "the bottom rung of the ladder."
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant. I love the quote you have used here and how you have depicted the vagrant's journey!
ReplyDeleteI love to be reminded of 'Sea Fever'; I was brought up on it, and was a big fan of Masefield as a child. You took the words into interesting new directions.
ReplyDeleteBest to begin at the bottom, therefore you have somewhere to go.
