Sunday Whirlygig

vent page sink orange cement spoon
stop weight sign brush  mirror ravish

old orange spoons
broken mirrors
paint brushes and cement
a stop sign
plastic waste
rubbish ruins
a ravishing beach

the weight of ugliness
ever increasing
we give vent to our anger
writing protest poems
page after page
for what?

if a picture paints
a thousand words
this tells you
everything you need to know
about mankind

bring on the giant asteroid
we're begging for it !

Sherlock Wins A Heart

Shadorma And Beyond
MLMM

paloma
finds sherlock intense
cerebral

i wonder
if there might be more to it
other than acting

he makes
her heart
skip

pitter
patter
boom

The Flying Piano Accordion

 DAY 8

she keeps driving
very tense
no option

you are always on her tail
making flimsy excuses
for your speed addiction hunger

if she stops
collision inevitable
you - wont feel a thing

she  however
will be transformed
into a flying piano accordion

Day 9

Infidelity

in love with text
careful
ink stains on shirt
not as incriminating
as lipstick
still
a kind of infidelity

Day 10

How Terrible

how terrible
to think
that if a cop
approaches you
you could be dead
in seconds
if you are a black man
in america
please take care
lovely person

Day 11

Pink Moon

 northern spring is here
 april is the cruellest month
 pink moon flushed with desire

Day 12

For All Those Who Are Suffering

when all the doors
are slammed in your face

when you are despised and rejected
when your heart is a pile of broken glass

when you are persecuted and exploited
treated with contempt and cruelty

when you find yourself alone
with no one to turn to

an angel will take your hand
and lift you gently on to his wings
take you for a ride in the clouds
to the mansions of the Lord
and remind you

you are loved by a force
greater than man no matter what
they do to you

Poem A Day

DAY 7

Love Her Way

chained to a kitchen sink
daydreaming
the lonely domestic goddess
knows that one day
her shining knight
will come for her

he -
armed with tea towels and oven mits
a brilliant sense of mad humour
great cookery and literary skills
genius at car and house maintenance
and most importantly
can strum her guitar so beautifully
that every day is a gift of sunflowers
will appear magically at her door
to join her in a life of domestic drudgery

the domestic goddess
is drowning in soap suds
waiting for sunflowers

Sunday's Whirligig

For the 147 Garissa University students murdered by Islamic terrorists in Kenya yesterday.

who can fathom
birdsong ever taking place
in a stand of surviving fruit trees
in what is now a war zone
with bullet cracks and pounding gun fire

people flee with just enough in a suitcase
to save themselves
not caring how the dispute started
mindful of the parable
" If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you"
careful enough not to do anything
which could identify them as Christians
while they desperately try to find refuge somewhere else
as safe haven countries  continue to shut the doors in their faces

Depression

feet can't find the ground
chained to a boulder
an uphill battle

Poem A Day

Day 1

no matter
how many  times she tried
she could never resist him

her only hope of escape
from drowning in his sea
was to make him hate her

how very madame lafayette
french literature has its uses

Day 2...Maundy Thursday

she looks up
no stars tonight
the moon is blurred
tis the gethsemane hour
of dangerous clouds

jesus dies tomorrow
at 3pm
easter again
forecast rain

Day 3

/>

a money machine
it's what everybody wants
stuff that grows on trees

sleeping peacefully
dreaming
probably not
of a white Christmas
but
a money tree
even
a few pickings
from the rich man's table

Day 4

Departure

up with the sparrows today
i listen
to the soft bird chorus outside
a dog barks in the distance
the house is quiet
except for the humming fridge

i make tea
in the sweet blue kitchen
and then I remember

the birds suddenly silent
my heart turns over
you have gone

Day 5

Wild Nights... not quite Emily Dickinson

Wild nights
Wild nights
Were I with thee
Onion tartine
would be our luxury

Done with the courgette canapes
Done with the calorie chart
Rowing in Eden
Ah the taste of the sea
salted and slippery
Might I but moor tonight in Thee

Day 6

Monday

there was such beauty
in the low slung cloud
yesterday
a pink and orange tinged
Sunday

today
a dark veil blacks out
my sky
pouring rain and storm
on to the clouds in my coffee

no one ever says
thank God it's Monday
do they?
