everything is about money
it's the central force to success in life
determines respect from others
business alliances called marriage
and the entree into influential circles
he was shattered when his lover
ended their relationship
t'was merely an illusion
cri de coeur was not given consideration
even his rhetoric noted for its masterful brevity and finesse
could not save him when he was deemed 'not suitable'
there was no empathy for his meagre funds
he was obviously in the 'not doing well' catalogue
a nostrum to be avoided
the continuing struggle
God's word versus mammon's rule
ongoing battle

It's terrifying how much people prioritize material wealth
ReplyDeleteThere are two sides to that argument. In the current world, we cannot survive wholly on only service and kindness. As you have rightly put it is an on going battle. The solution would be that everyone has enough so that they can focus on service
ReplyDeleteDidn't Jesus say something about the lilies of the field being provided for, even though they don't toil or spin (for money)?
ReplyDeleteIt is the age-old battle. I am reminded,of the native saying - when the last tree has been cut and the last fish has died, man will realize we cant eat money.
ReplyDeleteEgo rules in this cold, hard world. It's exhausting, isn't it? You captured that really well.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the "suiter" wasn't "suitable."
ReplyDeleteNo money honey!
DeleteThere is also in the poem the idea of dishonesty--if money is a primary criteria there is a recognition that it's not a virtue to "know" this
ReplyDeletePoor bugger... : )

How parents used to hope that their daughters suitor's "had prospects" so that their dear child would have a good life! Luckily my in-laws were unaware I was earning less that my future wife when we met!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a continuous struggle. The words flow here, and the fact that it is wordle is easily forgotten.
ReplyDeleteYes the world is materialistic nowadays.. sadly.. Powerful write.
