It’s difficult to imagine nowadays but there was a time when Australia had inspectors who patrolled the beach and ordered people to cover up in the name of public decency

The bikini was launched by the swimwear designer Paula Stafford back in 1952, causing an uproar at the time. Legally swimming costumes had to be at least three inches long in the leg and cover the front of the body all the way to the armpits.
