What If

what if you
were no longer in my life

the ferns would pale
to a faded green
even with soft  tinkling rain drops

you
who sustained me for years
you
who always remembered birthdays
mothers day christmas new year

you
who made me feel less alone in my world
you
who was everything i ever wanted
but forbidden to me

you
who confided and trusted me
with so many of your secrets
you
who were so fearful of the connection
you
who kept on reminding me a propos of nothing
that you did not love me

what if you
were no longer in my life
i would always remember the
smile of you
the lie of you

what if you
were no longer in my life
it will be sad
it will be lonely
but it will never be empty
i  will always have vivaldi
