Sunday's Whirligig 128

THIS WEEK'S WORD

the vagrant got a kick out of
his sleep over memories
reminiscing when he was a kid
nights of yarning way too much
shaking with laughter with friends

watching the grey mist over the ocean
the white spume of the waves
listening to the song of the sea
he was the least likely person
to ever end up in this position
at the bottom rung of the ladder

Words from " Sea Fever " John Masefield

Sundays Whirligig 127

Adolphe Valette

farmer flows fox press bow  butterflies
ravage songbirds munching dazzled palms tomatoes

she could have married
a french farmer who grew tomatoes
near a pretty village where the river flows
filled with songbirds and butterflies

she could have attended mass
every sunday in the old village church
pressing her palms together
and bowing  in prayer
a tradition the congregation still practised.

mais non
she was too dazzled by city life
munching croissants
reading books in cafes
wearing her fox fur and
dreaming of becoming
a philosopher
